This species is listed as Endangered in Michigan and the only native and documented populations that still exist are in Ionia county. The plants we offer are from sources to our south. It has bright red flowers which are very attractive to hummingbirds. Its preference is for open woodlands, savannas, or woodland edges. It is typically found growing in sandy or rocky well-drained soils.
